Colchester Zoo Reviews

We had a lovely day at Colchester Zoo, the keeper talks were probably my favourite bit. The little demos were great too. The staff explained everything in a really easy, down-to-earth way, and you could tell they genuinely care about the animals. A couple of the talks did get busy, so it was a bit hard to hear now and then, but even with that, I’d say it was definitely worth the visit.

It’s a really cute little gift shop. I picked up a mug after my visit, and while it was a bit pricey, the staff were super nice and made the stop feel worth it

We had a really nice day at Colchester Zoo with the family. There was loads to see and the animals all looked well cared for. The food was alright, though it were a bit pricey for what it was, and some of the paths got crowded as the day went on. The kids was absolutely loving it though, and we ended up staying much longer than we planned. I’d definitely go again, just maybe on a quieter day next time...

Overall, the tickets felt like a good deal for a day out. I thought the price was fair for what we got, although somehow it still felt a bit expensive once the day was over. I’d probably go again, but I’d also complain about paying for it.

I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the toilets were. They were easy to find, and there were not really any queues, which made things much easier.

The zoo itself was fine, but maybe it’s just me — I was disappointed with the food and drinks. We paid quite a bit for chips and a burger that were only just warm, and the coffee tasted really weak. The queues moved slowly too, which didn’t help. I know places like this are usually more expensive, but the quality just didn’t feel worth the price

I visited Colchester Zoo and was happy to see how much they focus on conservation and the projects they support. It didn’t come across like it was just for show either, since there’s information around the zoo and you can tell they’ve put real effort into it. The animals looked well cared for too, which was nice to see. I’m giving 4 stars because a few areas did feel crowded, but overall it’s a good zoo doing some decent work.

I went with my two kids, the play areas ended up being one of the highlights for them. They were so excited running around and climbing on everything, and seeing them that happy made the whole day feel a lot easier and more enjoyable for me too.

The areas felt clean enough and safe, which really helped me relax a bit instead of hovering the whole time. There was seating nearby for parents as well, and after a long day of walking around seeing the animals, having that little break made a big difference

It wasn’t too busy when we went, which just made the whole place feel easier to enjoy. The queues were short and there was plenty of room to walk around without feeling crowded. My gut feeling is we picked a really good time to visit...

We took the kids to Colchester Zoo for a family day out and had a lovely time. From our visit, it felt like there was always something new for them to spot, and they were so excited seeing all the different animals up close.
The zoo was easy to get around with a buggy, although a couple of the hills definitely gave us a bit of a workout. Toilets and food stops were simple enough to find too, which makes such a difference when you’re there with little ones.

It did get a bit crowded in a few areas, so that’s the only reason I’d knock off a star. But overall, based on our day there, it’s a really fun and well-run place for families, and we’d definitely go back.

We had such an easy time finding our way around the zoo. The maps and signs were really clear, clear enough that we didn’t get lost at all, even with the kids running off ahead every two seconds. The animal areas were simple to spot, and things like toilets and food places were easy, easy to find too. it made the whole day feel way less stressful

I visited Colchester Zoo and came away with mixed feelings. Some parts were nice enough, but a few of the enclosures looked small and tired, especially for the bigger animals, and it was hard to just ignore that.
I get that running a zoo can’t be easy, but in some areas it almost felt like you were begging yourself not to be annoyed by what you were seeing. I left feeling more sad and a bit resentful than impressed, which wasn’t really what I expected from the day.

I took my kids and they had such a good time, such a good time. They really loved the animal talks, and I loved that they were learning without it feeling like school. The signs were helpful everywhere too. We all came home knowing more, a lot more.

When we got there, there were plenty of parking spots, so getting in was easy. It was a bit busy later on, so leaving took a little longer than expected.

I went with my kids and left feeling a little bummed. So many of the enclosures looked empty, and the kids kept asking where the animals were. Maybe we just came at the wrong time, but for the price, it was hard not to feel disappointed.

We had a really nice day at Colchester Zoo. The staff were super easy to chat to and seemed to know all sorts about the animals. My kids asked them a bunch of random questions and they answered everything without making us feel rushed or anything. It definitely made the day feel a bit more special

Had a really nice day at Colchester Zoo, loads to see and all that, but yeah the food and drinks aren’t cheap. If you can, chuck some snacks in your bag before you go, it’ll save you a decent bit.

I don’t have a lot of patience for places that make getting around harder than it needs to be, so I was glad the wheelchair access here was actually good. It was easy enough to get in and move around without any hassle

I really loved how many different animals there were to see, like one minute you're looking at big cats and then somehow you're watching tiny little monkeys doing their thing. It felt like there was always something else around the corner, and I don’t even think we managed to see everything in one visit. Such a fun day out. 5 stars from me.
